Hoy hicimos una excursión a Montserrat. Y como para cambiar un poco de tema, y no andar siempre mirándome el ombligo y escribiendo sobre ello, les voy a contar un poquito de lo que vimos.

Montserrat es una montaña que está como a 60 kms de Barcelona. El paisaje alrededor es bastante llano lo que hace que la montaña se vea aún más espectacular y su forma la hace inconfundible. Al parecer es un macizo milenario único en el mundo por sus dimensiones y sus formas.
La verdad es que verla impresiona, y a medida que te vas acercando, y ya cuando estas bordeándola, la verticalidad de sus paredes recuerda un poco la de los tepuyes porque piensas que quien se cae por ahí pasa días y días cayendo..

El pico de Sant Jeroni (1235 m) es el punto más alto de la montaña. Muy cerca de la cima la montaña acoje un importante monasterio benedictino de gran vida cultural y religiosa, fundado en el 1025 por el abad Oliba, abad de Santa María de Ripoll e impulsor del arte románico.

Aparte del monasterio hay poco más allá arriba; unos cuantos establecimientos de tipo turístico como cafeterías, un hotel y tienditas tipo gift shop. Pero lo que no hay en el pueblo es porque no hace falta, todo lo suple la vista, el frio y el oir a la coral de niños cantar dos veces al día. (La coral es una de las antiguas de Europa - S. XII - y del mundo).

Daba una sensación de Europa. Esa sensación de que en cualquier momento Julie Andrews va a salir cantando "The Sound of Music" o que si pasas la montaña llegas a Suiza.

En la basílica de Santa María está la patrona de Cataluña: la Virgen de Montserrat.

Cuenta la leyenda que unos pastores estaban pastando sus ovejas cerca de Montserrat y descubrieron la imagen de madera en una cueva, en medio de un misterioso resplandor y cantos angelicales. Por órdenes del obispo de llevarla a la catedral, comenzó la procesión, pero no llegó a su destino, ya que la estatua se empezó a poner increíblemente pesada y difícil de manejar. Entonces fue depositada en una ermita cercana, y permaneció allí hasta que se construyó el actual monasterio benedictino.

La virgen es de talla románica, y la llaman La Moreneta por su color oscuro que se atribuye al humo de innumerables velas y lámparas que por siglos se han encendido ante la imagen día y noche.

El monasterio de Santa María y la reserva natural de la Montaña de Montserrat son probablemente la zona más emblemática de Cataluña: por su curiosidad geológica, como símbolo del catalanismo y como punto de peregrinaje.

Tenemos planes de hacer mas excursiones de este tipo, ya les estaré contando. Se acabó la dicha por hoy, ya mañana volveré a contarles mis incoherencias y mis pánicos pre-boda. Purruños a todos.
